Cleveland VOTES Looking for Democracy Enthusiasts to Join Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors are community-centered leaders who believe in expanding civic participation and fighting for fair elections.


Democracy organization Cleveland VOTES is seeking passionate, collaborative, and mission-aligned leaders to join our Board of Directors. We welcome board candidates who are energized by community-centered leadership and who believe in expanding civic participation and democratic access. Ideal candidates bring a combination of:​


  • A commitment to equity, civic engagement, and community empowerment

  • Professional expertise in areas such as fundraising, finance, law, communications, nonprofit governance, public policy, education, organizing, or strategy

  • Strong relationships within Cleveland and Northeast Ohio communities

  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to serve as ambassadors for the organization

  • Excitement about supporting a growing, innovative nonprofit movement


We strongly encourage applications from leaders who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, including Black, Brown, immigrant, LGBTQ+, disability, youth, and formerly incarcerated communities.


Board Member Responsibilities


  • Attending and actively participating in board meetings

  • Supporting organizational strategy and long-term sustainability

  • Assisting with fundraising and partnership development

  • Advocating for Cleveland VOTES within personal and professional networks

  • Supporting organizational accountability, governance, and mission alignment

  • Participating in committees, events, and key initiatives
