Cleveland VOTES' Democracy in the Living Room (DITLR) series is back! Join us for our second workshop in this three-part series, centered on Stories from the Movement: The Journey of Our Elders, on June 23 from 5:30pm - 8:00pm.
What can you expect to learn about political organizing?
At a time when many political organizers feel pressure to constantly innovate or reinvent strategies, this session asks an important question: What can we learn by returning to the basics?
An interactive workshop (panel discussion + small breakout groups), this session invites attendees to explore how organizing principles, relationship-building practices, and movement strategies used in the past still hold power today.
What are the intended takeaways?
Participants will:
Gain a deeper understanding of how movement history connects to current organizing efforts.
Identify strategies, tools, and lessons from past movements that can be applied today.
Explore opportunities for continued connection and mentorship beyond the event.
Who's facilitating?
The session will be co-facilitated by Cleveland VOTES team members Jerry Peña, Senior Community + Cultural Engagement Strategist, and Kirby Broadnax, Democracy Collective Facilitator.
Who Is This Workshop For?
This session is for community members on the frontlines, such as:
People who are curious about getting more involved in their community
Organizers and advocates (new, experienced, or aspiring)
Those who want to practice having tough conversations across differences
Leaders, facilitators, and movement builders
Neighbors who want to listen, learn, and grow together
